Haiku for ChiChi
Born in South Memphis
Came running at sound of food
Protector of home
For those of you who know me at all, know that I loved my dog, ChiChi!! She died this morning in Bear's dog house. She was suffering from Cushings Disease. We are so thankful that she never had to go through all the Chemo and/or brain surgery, but it just hurts all the same, now that she is gone.
It all started in April of 1999 and I was teaching at Longview Middle School in South Memphis. It was metal detector day and we had the front door of the school propped open to allow the students to line up before coming in to get checked. I saw ChiChi curled up outside the door and she was just the cutest little thing ever!! I picked up her little 11 pound body and brought her inside. It was then that I heard Mr. Murphy, the art teacher say: "Awww, Miss Kennedy's got herself a dog!" Well, he was right!! I kept her in my classroom that morning and one of my students, Ladricus, named her ChiChi. It just fit her to a T. Later that day during my free period, I took her to the vet and had her examined. They reported that she had been badly abused and that it would be hard for her to gain the trust of others. That proved to be the case until the day she left us. She especially, didn't like men. I think it took 8.5 years for her to not bark at Daddy every time he went to the street to check the mail. :) Baby girl was just showing us that she ran the show, and boy did she!! Her little nub would wag the whole time she was barking...Unless she really meant it, you knew she meant business! No wag, just a ferocious bark. She was such a great guard dog! I know Mama loved to have her around when Daddy had to travel.
ChiChi turned out to be the best dog our family has ever had. She was the sweetest animal that ever was.
You know, as much as it hurts to lose a pet, I truly thank God for putting animals in our lives. They are such a blessing. She brought so much joy to our family over the past 9 years. We are all going to miss her so much!!

I'm so sorry for all of you. I know how Dorothy loved ChiChi and how sad she was when he got sick. I can understand how you feel. I love Cocoa like he's a child. I do believe God gave us pets to show us what unconditional love is all about.
